It’s time to dig in and #SpeakUp about climate change!

Can you imagine a future where the UK no longer contributes to climate change? We sure can — and so can people in all corners of the country!

This summer, we are seeing one of the biggest conversations on climate change, with people everywhere making their voices heard for a cleaner future by having heart-to-hearts with their MPs as part of The Climate Coalition’s Speak Up campaign.

Zero emissions, more to love!

The Paris Agreement tells us what we need to do to help clean up our world — but right now, the UK’s emissions commitments aren’t strong enough to help make this happen. We want our Prime Minister to commit to a net zero emissions target ahead of 2050.

So what exactly would a net zero future look like? It would mean lower energy bills and more efficient homes, less pollution and cleaner air, and restored natural habitats. It would look like a future where the UK no longer contributes to climate change.

Speaking up at the Scoop Shop

At the start of July, over two hundred events popped up across the country celebrating the power of communities and the life we want to protect from climate change. From solar celebrations to BBQs, wildlife walks to fetes, the events were diverse, but their message was united: Together we can Speak Up for a greener, cleaner Britain.

And what’s a summer event without some ice cream? At Ben & Jerry’s we joined in the fun with an event at our Soho Scoop Shop. We were wearing our green hearts on our sleeves for a world where our favourite ingredients – including all the tasty nuts, coffee, brownie bites we add to our ice cream - are safe from climate change for years to come (what’s a world without chunks and swirls  after all?!)

Making a cleaner future a reality

The most exciting thing is that anyone can speak up. And as well as people like you, an incredible 108 MPs and 51 peers (and counting!) have joined in the action to sign a monumental cross-party MP letter calling for commitment to a net zero emissions target by 2050.

Encouragingly, almost every interaction with an MP so far has resulted in them signing up to the letter. Whether you send your MP a good old-fashioned letter, invite them to an event, or just hit that tweet button, now’s the time to Speak Up and make your voice heard.  

Grab a spoon and dig in to the action!

Simply find out who your MP is and how to contact them, check if they’ve signed the letter yet, and send them a personalised copy of the template letter or organise a meeting with them. And if your MP has already signed up? Send them a thank you letter or tweet! MPs love knowing their constituents support them.
