We're Getting Together... Are You?!
This weekend, thousands of people across the country will dust off their picnic blankets, pick up their paper napkins, and have a jolly good time with their friends and neighbours.
Why? All in the name of The Great Get Together - a three-day event where people of all ages, genders, faiths and backgrounds will celebrate the many flavours that make up our society.
More In Common
The Great Get Together was inspired by Jo Cox, who in her first speech as an MP told parliament: ‘We are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us.’ Jo was killed in a tragic attack on 16th June last year and since then, friends and family have set up the Jo Cox Foundation. The foundation aims to continue her work in the areas she was passionate about – including a fairer, kinder and more tolerant society.
Dig In
This year, we’ll be joining the party because we believe in Jo’s words. We’re not big fans of the divisive narratives we’re seeing in our society today, so we’re all for celebrating all that we have in common. After all, we don’t live in a one flavour society – and our world is all the sweeter for it.
Over 100,000 events have already been planned – so why not find your nearest one and join in? And if you’re struggling to find an event in your area, it’s not too late to start your own! You could do something as small as baking biscuits for your neighbours, or as big as organising a full-blown street party – time to get your creative hat on! The people behind the Great Get Together have created a pack to help you get started.
